The Kavach was developed indigenously by RDSO in association with three
Indian Vendors
Indian Railway has developed its own indigenous Automatic Train
Protection (ATP) Systems for enhancing the safety of running trains. The
system is known as Kavach
Based on trials in the developmental project, Kavach has been certified
for Safety Integrity Level 4 by an Independent Safety Assessor (which is the
highest level of safety certification)
Kavach has been approved by RDSO for speeds upto 160 kmph
Kavach has been adopted as the National Automatic Train Protection (ATP)
System in 2020
Key Feature of Kavach
Kavach controls speed of the train by automatic application of brakes in
case Loco Pilot fails to do so
Repeats line-side signal in cab which is very usef higher speeds and
foggy weather
Works on principle of continuous update of Movement authority
Auto whistling at LC gates Collision avoidance by direct loco to loco
communication
Supports feature of SOS in case of any mishap to control train in
vicinity
